Bastrop Downtown Business Alliance
The Eighth Annual Bastrop Downtown Business Alliance Veterans Day Car and Truck Show will
be the city’s largest event of the year!  We welcome over 11,000 spectators and well over 250 vehicles
each year.

It all begins on Friday, November 8, with a drive-in movie at dusk in Fisherman’s Park, located on the
banks of the Colorado River.  Sit in your car, tune your radio to our drive-in station for audio, and watch an
oldie-but-goodie on a huge outdoor screen.  Refreshments will be available.

Everyone who registers no later than October 31 will be eligible for a $300 cash drawing on the day of the
show!

Registration for the car show begins bright and early Saturday morning, November 9, and continues until
10:00 a.m.   This is a judged show.  Awards will be given out beginning at 3:30.  There will be a raffle, door
prizes, great music, and lots of goodies.  Those registered will get a free t-shirt made especially for the
event!

The highlight of the day is our moving veterans’ ceremony which begins at 11:00 a.m.  It honors those who
have served both past and present, and remembers those who made the ultimate sacrifice.  Our Veterans
Walk is the beginning of the ceremony and all veterans are asked to join in.  It is led by a kilted bagpiper,
and the colors are borne by the Bastrop High School Naval Jr. ROTC, the recipient of the car show profits.
We have a Veterans Wall of Honor on display with the pictures of area veterans, and a fly-over performing
the Missing Man Formation followed by Taps.

During the day, enjoy live music; explore Bastrop’s numerous antique shops, art galleries, gift shops,
clothing stores, and street vendors where you are sure to find that special one-of-a-kind Christmas
present.  You won’t go hungry either.   We have first-class restaurants that will satisfy any palate!

MUSIC SCHEDULE

10:00-10:30:  The Honor Choir
12:30-1:30:  The Studebakers
2:00-3:00:  Slim Bawb
3:30-5:00:  Rick Broussard's Two Hoots and a Holler

We’ll see you downtown!

2013 Veterans Day Car Show Survey
After you have enjoyed the beautiful classic cars in downtown Bastrop
on Saturday, join us in Smithville at 8:30 am on Sunday morning for a
Veterans Service at the new Veterans Memorial Park!

Following the service, a buffet breakfast will be provided (for an at-will
donation) at the Recreation Center and recordings from the Smithville
Public Library’s StoryCorps program will be playing throughout the Park.

The Veterans Memorial Park opened on Memorial Day 2013 and is
dedicated to all the brave men and women who have served in the
military, in particular having researched those from Bastrop County.
StoryCorps is one of the largest oral history projects of its kind. Since
2003, StoryCorps has collected and archived more than 30,000
interviews. Each conversation is recorded and preserved at the
American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. On Sunday
November 10, 2013 the Smithville Public Library will share the recorded
stories of Bastrop County veterans at the Smithville Veterans Memorial
Park.
